Publishing military newspapers for more than 50 years
From the 1940s and early 1950s when Fort Carson was still “Camp Carson,” we’ve never missed a beat in publishing weekly newspapers serving the Colorado Springs military communities.
The adjacent page from the September 7, 1951 “Camp Carson Mountaineer” depicts some of the tedious steps involved in “hot type,” photo engravings and locking it all into a chase (tray) for the letterpress printing used back then. (Who says those were the “good old days”?)
As Colorado Springs’ military community grew, Ent Field became Peterson Air Force Base and the Cheyenne Mountain installation, the U.S. Air Force Academy and Schriever Air Force Base were added to the significant role the military plays in our economy. As they were added, we added newspapers.
Today, CSMNG publishes four weekly newspapers; the Red, White & Blue Book and more than a dozen special supplements that serve all members of the military family.
CSMNG, the Colorado Springs Business Journal, the Colorado Springs Philharmonic magazine and The Transcript are published by Colorado Publishing Co., a division of Dolan Media Co.
Dolan has more than 20 offices nationwide and also publishes the Tinker TakeOff, which serves Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma.
