By 50th Space Wing
Maj. Thomas Smicklas took over as commander of 50th Comptroller Squadron during a change-of-command ceremony held in front of the DeKok building July 17.
Major Smicklas assumed command from Maj. Christopher C. Abate, who has been the wing comptroller since June 2006.
As commander of 50th CPTS, Major Smicklas will be responsible for all financial management, analysis and financial functions of the wing. He will plan and execute a $234 million annual operations and maintenance budget for the wing operating locations worldwide and direct military pay and travel pay services for all military and civilian personnel assigned to Schriever.
Major Smicklas is a 1998 graduate of the University of Cincinnati. His first assignment was as a Missile Combat Crew Commander, Peacekeeper ICBM, FE Warren AFB, Wyo. His previous position before arriving here was as the Headquarters Budget Analyst, Air Force Space Command, Peterson AFB, Colo.
His decorations include a Meritorious Service Medal, two Air Force Commendation Medals, and the Air Force Achievement Medal.
In addition to his bachelor’s degree, Major Smicklas holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, Md.
