by Senior Master Sgt. Lawrence Hill
Twelve energetic pre-school students from the Peterson Child Development Center experienced music, live and in person, compliments of the U.S. Air Force Academy Band July 27.
Master Sgt. Cheryl Sizer, NCOIC of the concert band, led the four- and five-year-old students on a tour of the band’s facilities, introduced them to several musicians in the band, and let them see many of the band’s missions in action. The students listened and danced while visiting a Falconaires Jazz Ensemble rehearsal.
The kids then visited the band’s recording control room where Master Sgt. Dan Kenemore explained the process of editing music for upcoming television shows. The students also toured the equipment warehouse, library and command section. At every stop, students were able to hear, touch, and experience the instruments and equipment the band uses to bring the Air Force message to audiences throughout the world.
Each of the four pre-school classes at the Peterson CDC go on a field trip each week during the summer where they see missions in action. Any unit within walking distance of the CDC is encouraged to call the CDC at 554-9572 to invite the kids to visit and see the various missions of Peterson AFB up close and personal.
