Peterson ‘takes gold’ in SnoFest competition

PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo — Peterson skiers brought home the commander’s cup at this year’s SnoFest, held Jan. 29 to 31 at Keystone Resort.
There were 77 racers on Friday and 111 on Saturday competing in downhill ski and snow board races (handicapped times are in parentheses).
The Commander’s Cup went to Peterson with a winning total time of 83.18 seconds. Team members included Roger Wolf (17.7 seconds), Steve Plummer (18.44), Maj. John Thomas (23.17) and Erin O’Connor (23.87).
First place in Friday’s ski team race was taken by USAFAST 2 composed of Graham Smith (15.86), Jane Evans (19.15), and Hannah Campbell (19.51), all of USAFA. Team total was 54.52 seconds.
First place in Friday’s snow board team race was captured by First Group, composed of Austin Baker (24.73), Danny Montplaisir (25.64) and Ryan Critchfield (27.7), all of USAFA. Team total was 78.08 seconds.
Individual women’s ski race was won by Jane Evans (19.15) USAFA, and individual women’s snow board race was won by Danielle Claflin (28.4) Buckley AFB.
Individual men’s ski race was won by Don Kutyna (15.71) Peterson, and individual men’s snow board race was won by Maj. John Thomas (23.17) Peterson.
There were also 12 snowshoe entries, 37 cardboard derby entries, 875 attending Friday night’s party, and 750 attending Saturday’s party. In all, about 3,000 attended the annual SnoFest activities, organized this year by the 21st Force Support Squadron.
