PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — While running is something people frequently do alone, runners often come together for organized running events like the 2013 Armed Forces Community Run at 8 a.m. May 11 at Peterson AFB. Runners can enjoy the camaraderie and the opportunity to test their fitness and their time.

The third annual 5k/10k run/walk starts at 8 a.m. on Paine Street south of the command complex (parking available east of building 3). The course for the 5k is one lap and takes runners down to Hamilton Road, along the flight line, and then loops back to the start/finish line. The course for the 10k is one lap and takes runners down to Hamilton Road, along Silver Spruce Golf Course and then back to the start/finish line.

The 5k and 10k categories include: Open Men: 34 years and younger; Open Women: 34 years and younger; Masters Men: 35 years and older; Masters Women: 35 years and older; Team Racing: No divisions, four runners per team. The top three finishers in each category will receive awards.

Enjoy entertainment including live music by the U.S. Air Force Academy band Blue Steel, sponsor and vendor booths in the race village, and — of course — a fantastic morning run on Peterson AFB. A local radio station will also broadcast live from 8-10 a.m.

Then there’s the shwag — you know, the free stuff — which includes a running shirt, water bottle, beverages and refreshments.

The entry fee is $30 through May 10, plus a $2.50 processing fee when you register online at www.21fss.com; $35 on race day. Entry fee is non-refundable.
