Sky Sox Military Appreciation Night, today

Information, Tickets and Tours has free tickets for today, Military Appreciation Night. Visit the ITT office in Building 300, Room 133 to pick up ticket vouchers. Call ITT at 567-6050 for more information.

Slide the City, Friday, Aug. 19, noon-3 p.m.

Behind the Fitness Center. Inner tubes available. Everyone must sign a waiver. Food trucks will be available to purchase ice cream, shaved ice and Arby’s.

David Cook Concert: Friday, Sept. 16, 5-6:30 p.m.

Who’s ready to rock out? American Idol winner and platinum recording artist David Cook will perform a free concert 5 — 6:30 p.m. between the shoppette and fitness center. Fall Fest Human Chess Tournament: Oct. 7, 5 p.m.

Start getting your teams together. As part of Fall Fest, we will be hosting a human chess tournament starting at 5 p.m. Each group and the wing staff agencies are expected to man at least one team. Each team will consist of 17 players (16 players and one captain) and is responsible for selecting a theme for their costumes (i.e. space, Harry Potter, medieval, etc.). Mystery Escape Room — The Invisible Files

Can you crack the code? Your co-worker John Peters has gone missing and you have been gathered by a suspected criminal. Can you uncover clues, decipher the codes and perceive the messages in time to find out the truth and save yourselves? The 50th Force Support Squadron brings the Mystery Escape Room to Schriever. This program provides a fun and exciting team building experience through a real life escape room adventure while incorporating some of the pillars of the Comprehensive Airman Fitness — mental, physical and social. Fun Volunteer Opportunity

Looking for a fun volunteer opportunity? We are looking for volunteers to help run movies on base twice a month at Tierra Vista Community Center and also in the Building 300 auditorium. Right Start: Aug. 18, 8 a.m. — 1 p.m.

An introduction to the installation and local community resources for newly arrived personnel. Briefers include: 50th Space Wing commander, SAPR, Family Advocacy, medical, legal, Force Support Squadron Marketing and more. This briefing will be held in the Building 300 auditorium.

Cake Decorating and Tasting Contest: Sept. 16

In celebration of the Air Force Birthday and remembrance of the POW/MIAs, there will be a cake decorating and tasting contest, in Building 210 atrium from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cakes will be judged at 2 p.m. and winners announced at the David Cook concert. There are three categories and three prizes. Show off your creative talent.

Capstone: Aug. 22, 8:30 — 11:30 a.m.

Separating/retiring members must attend the capstone preliminary review to have their required separation/retirement form verified. Once the form has been verified by the Airman & Family Readiness Center staff the form must be signed by their unit commander or designee. The signed form must be returned to the A&FRC no later than 90 days before your separation/retirement.

Single Airman Initiative Program: Sept. 2

There’s no better way to tune up your skills for the upcoming waterfowl season than a dove hunt. Single Airmen will have access to exclusive hunting properties during this fast-paced shooting experience. Hunters must have a hunter safety card, a valid Colorado small game license/habitat stamp, a shotgun, a Harvest Information Program number (go to: for more information) and appropriate hunting apparel. Lunch, beverages and snacks will not be provided, however, transportation is included.

12th annual Schriever Triathlon: Aug. 26

The fitness center will be hosting the 12th Annual SAFB Triathlon 8 a.m. Aug 26. Participants will swim 400 meters in the Tierra Vista Community Pool, mountain bike 12 miles around the base perimeter (no cross-bicycles or skinny tires), and run 3.1 miles. Teams of three will be allowed to compete. Participants must arrive at the Tierra Vista Community Pool no later than 7:45 a.m. for race instructions. The registration deadline is noon Friday. All finishers will receive a free T-shirt and prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers (solo competitors only). There will also be four door prizes.

Volunteers Needed for SAFB Trathlon

The fitness center is looking for Airmen to help out with the 12th Annual Schriever Triathlon on Aug. 26.

Summer Swim Hours at Tierra Vista Community Pool

The Tierra Vista Pool will not be available for non-housing residents Sept. 5 and 7. Otherwise, the Tierra Vista Community Pool is available for use by the Schriever AFB community 6 a.m. — noon Mondays, and 6 a.m. — 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays, now through Sept. 30. Lap swim will be 6 — 10 a.m. Monday — Friday, and open swim will be 10 a.m. — noon Mondays, and 10 a.m. — 2 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays.

Batting Cages Temporarily Closed at the Fitness Center

The batting cages located next to the fitness center are closed for repair until further notice. We hope to have all repairs completed as soon as possible.

Air Force Fitness Assessment Testing Time/Day Summer Hours

The Air Force Fitness Assessment summer hours are currently in effect. Testing days and times are 7 a.m., and 9 a.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. This testing schedule will remain in effect until Nov 1.

D&T Ice Cream Truck

D&T Ice Cream delivery service to the Tierra Vista Housing is scheduled for 1 — 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The truck will make several passes through the housing area before parking in front of the Tierra Vista Community Center for service.

Child Development Center

Program is open to all eligible patrons in the entire Front Range area. This includes Peterson Air Force Base, Fort Carson, and U.S. Air Force Academy members.

CDC Full Time Care

Full time slots are available in the infant (6-12 months) and preschool (3-5 year olds) classrooms.

Hourly care

Are you looking for hourly care for your children 6 weeks-5 years? The CDC offers hourly care for only $4 per hour. Parents may call the CDC for more details, to inquire about availability and to register.

Give Parents a Break: Friday, Sept. 9; 6:15 — 11:15 p.m

Active-duty Air Force families eligible for the program include those where a parent is feeling stress due to the military member being deployed, on an extended temporary duty, or a remote tour; a family crisis or emergency such as a serious illness of a family member or a death in the family; the birth of a new baby; having a child with special needs; or other unique circumstances or hardship. Give Parents a Break vouchers can be obtained from the A&FRC, squadron commander, first sergeant, chaplain and the CDC director. All children must have current paperwork on file at the CDC and be current on all vaccinations.

School-Age Care

School-Age Care Fall Registration

Youth who are entering kindergarten through age 12 may attend the School Age Care program. The program follows District 22 school calendar for Ellicott School District. In addition, care is provided for District 49 and District 22 breaks in the fall, winter, and spring. Youth are provided the opportunity to participate in swimming, archery, clubs, 4-H, Boys and Girls Club, and community service projects.
