Group Lifestyle Balance Class
The Peterson Health and Wellness Center is sponsoring a Group Lifestyle Balance Weight Loss Program class at 10 a.m., Sept. 6 at the Peterson HAWC classroom on the second floor of the gym. Islamic State, Extremists Briefing
The OSI 8th Field Investigations Squadron, located at Peterson, is holding a briefing to address Islamic State and homegrown violent extremists’ history, tactics and trends. The briefing is at 2 p.m. Sept. 1 in the base auditorium. For information call 554-2822.
German Armed Force Proficiency Badge
The GAFPB is one of the few approved foreign awards that can be worn by U.S. service members. The GAFPB combines the requirements of superior physical fitness and soldiering skills — awardees must excel at both to earn any award. Open Enrollment for School Age Program
The RP Lee Youth Center is currently taking request for before & after school care. For more information and to sign up, call (719) 556-7220. Our Youth Programs-operated van transportation program will deliver children to and from James Irwin Elementary and James Irwin Middle School. If there is significant demand to serve additional schools such as Rocky Mountain Classical Academy, Evans or Remington, we will do our absolute best to accommodate that demand. Cost for this transportation will still be $10/week each way, in addition to the weekly fee. For example $10/week for before school, $20/week for before and after school.
Marksheffel Road Construction
El Paso County will continue phased widening of Marksheffel Road between US 24 and Drennan Rd. along with intersection improvements south of Drennan Road through Mesa Ridge Parkway. The road closure between Peterson East and Drennan Rd will remain in effect as crews realign dangerous curves and lay new asphalt. However, this section of the project will remain as a two lane road, the new alignment and surfaces will greatly enhance the safety of this section of the corridor.
Legal Assistance Changes
Beginning June 1, legal assistance availability at the Peterson AFB legal office will change. Legal assistance appointments will still be offered on Monday from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:30 to noon. First priority for appointments will be given to Peterson and Cheyenne Mountain Air Force
Station active-duty personnel and their spouses. Retirees and all others eligible for legal assistance may call on Thursday for any remaining appointment times. Appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis. Walk-In legal assistance on Wednesday from 8-9 a.m. will be limited to active-duty members assigned to Peterson AFB and Cheyenne Mountain AFS, their spouses, and other eligible individuals with unique military legal needs. The legal office will not draft wills or medical powers of attorney during walk-in hours.
Peterson Community Dinner
The Peterson Chapel hosts the Peterson Community Dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month. The month of August will be Green Dot themed! For more information contact the chapel at 556-4442.
Widows’ group meets
The Society of Military Widows is open to all Military Widows of any branch of military service, regardless of the spouses rank. The Pikes Peak Chapter 15 of the Society of Military Widows meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am at the Peterson Air Force Base Club.
