Explore Colorado with outdoor recreation program

By Airman Jonathan Whitely | 50th Space Wing Public Affairs

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — For Schriever Airmen, exploring the Rocky Mountains can be exciting, especially since they are so close.

The Schriever Air Force Base, Colorado outdoor recreation program purchased new equipment to help members of Team Schriever enjoy the opportunities right outside the gates.

Juli Yim, 50th Force Support Squadron director of outdoor recreation, said the outdoor recreation program purchased new stand-up paddleboards, three new campers, five new bounce houses and replaced aged equipment.

“By purchasing this new equipment, we’re able to provide Team Schriever with optimal experience and allow them to really enjoy the beautiful state of Colorado,” she said.

Josiah Howard, 50th FSS outdoor recreation aide, said the new equipment expands upon what outdoor rec was already able to do.

He said providing new opportunities for Schriever Airmen is important, and encouraged everyone to participate in the activities they host.

“On May 25th, outdoor recreation is hosting a whitewater rafting trip for Airmen, their families and contractors,” Howard said. “People will have the option to participate in an intermediate or advanced course, both are available to everyone.”

Yim said outdoor recreation provides a more affordable route to participate in activities that could otherwise prove expensive.

“By using our equipment, you’re not only saving yourself the hassle of finding a place to rent equipment from, but you’re saving yourself a lot of money,” she said. “You don’t have to participate in our events to use our equipment either.”

Yim also said to take advantage of outdoor recreation and the opportunities available in Colorado. She said outdoor recreation is always open to feedback and new ideas, and to feel free to contact them.

“Outdoor recreation is here for you, the Schriever community,” Yim said. “Our primary goal is to get people out and provide an experience that allows Schriever to be special and build a strong community.”
