A&FRC stays ready during pandemic

SCHRIEVER AIR FORCE BASE, Colo. — The 50th Force Support Squadron’s Airman and Family Readiness Center stays ready to provide Airmen with their helping services, even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The services still offered by the AFRC include:
– Information and Referral
– Air Force Aid Society
– Family Readiness – coordinated via email/phone
– Transition Assistance Program – coordinated via email/phone
– Survivor Benefit Program – coordinated via email/phone
– Relocation Program – coordinated via email/phone
– Personal Work Life (Key Spouse) – via email/phone

“[COVID-19] has altered the in-person connection we have with the people who come to the center for assistance,” said Andrea Hernandez, AFRC flight chief. “Now we make those connections by phone or email.” Despite this obstacle, the flight is dedicated to providing Airmen and their families with the highest quality of care possible. “[You] are not alone,” Hernandez said. “This situation is impacting everyone. There are so many resources available. Reach out if you are in need.”

The AFRC is available for limited services via appointment from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday – Friday.

“The services provided by the AFRC are a vital part of any disaster scenario,” said Johnathan Gamer, 50th Force Support Squadron casualty assistance representative.
“From assisting with financial struggles to members transitioning out of the military, as well as, helping members and their families through crises.”

One of the primary programs that can be used to help families through this time of uncertainty is the Air Force Aid Society. AFAS is the official charity of the U.S. Air Force to meet the needs of Airmen and their families since 1942.

“We strive to provide peace of mind and support at all times, but especially during these uncertain ones,” Gamer said. “Just knowing that services never stop and that we will do anything we can in the office still hopefully gives families some comfort.”
