FORT CARSON, Colo. — Thirty-three teams from across the 4th Infantry Division competed in Ivy Week’s Ultimate Frisbee disk competition June 28-30, 2021, at Fort Carson, Colorado.
The 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 4th Aviation Regiment, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade, 4th Inf. Div., was the overall winner, after beating 3rd Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., with a score of 6-5 in the championship round.
“There were a couple times out there I thought I was going to throw up,” said Spc. Thomas Schrader, a UH-60 helicopter repairer with 3rd AHB, 4th Avn. Reg, of the final game. “It was hard.”
Ultimate Frisbee is a low-contact team sport that combines elements of football, soccer and basketball, which include scoring by passing a goal line, movement of the Frisbee disk across the field by passing and having turnovers for incomplete or interfered passes.
“We came out with a ton of intensity and a ton of focus,” said Chief Warrant Officer 2 Sam Gerolmo with 3rd AHB, 4th Avn. Reg. “They were not getting that Frisbee if we had anything to say about it.”
