Opinion: Ready to continue rich history

By Maj. Gen. David M. Hodne | Commanding general, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson

FORT CARSON, Colo. — 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson and the Colorado Springs community,

I am excited and honored to be back at the Mountain Post. I look forward to continuing the great legacy of the 4th Infantry Division and rejoining this community, which provides tremendous support and partnerships to Fort Carson, its Soldiers and Families.

As this is my third time being stationed at Fort Carson, most recently as the deputy commanding general from June 2017 to June 2018, I’m incredibly humbled at the opportunity to serve alongside these great Soldiers and return to this wonderful community.

My Family and I are deeply appreciative of the warm welcome offered by both on-post personnel and local community leaders.

The “Ivy” Division will continue to be prepared to answer our nation’s call, and I look forward to leading the professional and disciplined leaders and Soldiers of the 4th Infantry Division as we continue to stand steadfast and loyal in support of our nation.

The 4th Infantry Division, also known as the “Ivy Division,” maintains a long and proud history of defending this nation against its enemies, dating back to 1917. Since World War I, the Ivy Division fought in every major American conflict. In order to continue to meet and defeat peer and near-peer threats as they arise, we must remain agile and adaptable. With that in mind, the division will ensure our people remain our Army’s true source of overmatch against our adversaries. As valued members of the Profession of Arms, our Ivy Division Soldiers remain disciplined and lethal professionals who live the Army Values and are ready to defend our nation anytime, anywhere.

As I assume command of the 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson and assess the status of the division and the installation, I am proud once again to be an Ivy Soldier and am proud to serve in the Ivy Division. In keeping with the rich history and service to the community, the division is honored to be the face of Fort Carson and be a loyal partner with the community. The division will remain trained and ready to fight and win, and we are committed to sustaining readiness and caring for Families and our community.

My Family and I look forward to building new relationships here on Fort Carson and with the surrounding Front Range and Colorado Springs community.

Steadfast and Loyal!
